ELEMENTS OF THE CEREMONY
Do you want a traditional ceremony with all the bells and whistles? Or, is this an informal gathering for close friends and family? Our wedding planning guide that you will receive upon booking your cruise will help you decide which elements to include in your celebration.
DAY OF PREPARATION
Our brides are invited to use our bridal suite. Just down the dock, the suite has all the amenities a bride needs to prepare for her big day.
THE GREETING
A sign-in book or a nautical life ring will be displayed for guests to sign and write their hopes and dreams for the new couple. Then the captain will welcome guests aboard the yacht and say a few words about the love and commitment between the couple.
THE VOWS
This is the part where the couple declares their intent to be committed to each other. They may promise to love in sickness and in health, in richness and poverty, till death do they part.
READINGS AND MUSIC
A religious ceremony will likely incorporate hymns and scripture readings that focus on love. Ceremonies may include music and readings about love, famous quotes, personal writing, pop songs, and classic wedding music.
EXCHANGE OF RINGS
The couple then exchanges rings and says a few words about what the significance of the rings. It could be...“I give you this ring as an expression of my love and commitment to you ,” Or, “I’m honored to give you this ring as a symbol of the promises I’ve made to you today, and a proclamation to the world of the love I have for you.”
PRONOUNCEMENT OF MARRIAGE
The captain announces to the guests or congregation that the couple is now “joined/united/wed” or whatever you prefer to say, and invites the couple to kiss. Some couples may not be used to kissing in public and thus may only have a very small kiss, or forgo this part altogether. Others will relish the moment to have the opportunity to kiss each other in front of their loved ones, proclaiming their love, and pride in having that love.
THE RECEPTION CRUISE
Once the ceremony is over, the guests are invited for drinks while photos are taken of the wedding party at the altar. The yacht tables and chairs are then arranged for the party and the mooring lines removed as the yacht departs for Galveston Bay. The reception can be very formal and traditional, or as casual as a “Let’s Escape to the Islands” theme. Your reception cruise may include traditional wedding elements such as the first dance, cake cutting and bouquet toss, or may just be a casual party for friends. Generally, your invitation will give clues to the guests as to what the reception will be like as well as what to wear.
