Frequently Asked Questions for Public Cruises

Q. What should I wear?

A. The attire varies with the type of cruise you are on, the time of day and the time of year. Most cruises are dressy casual or dressy. For women, a sundress, Capri pants, nice jeans or slacks with a blouse, and on late night cruises even your “little black dress”. For men, nice jeans with a polo shirt or dress slacks and dress shirt are appropriate. Summer cruises are more casual and nice shorts and sandals are permitted however tank tops, flip flops, or gym shoes are not. We generally recommend casual attire with comfortable shoes (boating shoes not required) and a coat or sweater if you are one to get cold. New Year's Eve and Valentine's cruises are dressy. Most people enjoy being out on the deck so dress appropriately for the weather.

Q. Celebrating a birthday or anniversary?

A. When buying tickets, you may purchase a “Celebration Package” for a birthday or anniversary which includes cake, balloon bouquet and Mardi gras beads to throw at the Kemah Boardwalk.

Q. Inviting friends & family?

A. Choose the date and cruise you would like to purchase tickets for then send a link to that page to your friends and family. When buying your tickets on our site there is a place to create a “Group Name”. Let them know what it is so that we will know that you want to sit together.

Q. Will I receive tickets?

A. Yes, the moment you hit the purchase button they will be emailed to you. Just print them out and bring them with you as your ticket page will have useful information on it. However, you do not need your ticket to board the yacht. You will be checking in under the last name of the credit card holder.

Q. What time should we arrive?

A. 30 min prior to the cruise, boarding starts 15 min prior.

Q. How do we get there?

A. We are a ½ mile from the Kemah Boardwalk. Directions are on your tickets and on our website on the Map and Directions Page.

Q. Will we have our own table?

A. Most seating is “Cruise Ship Style” with 8-10 persons per table. Groups of 4 or more typically have assigned seating to ensure that they sit together. On the Romantic Sunset Cruises, however seating on the 2nd deck of the STAR GAZER are typically at private tables.

Q. What if the weather is bad?

A. We cruise rain or shine. In the case of severe weather conditions the yacht may remain dockside, but the food, beverage and entertainment service will continue. If it is a hurricane or major flooding that affects the whole area, the cruise will either be resheduled or refunded.

Q. How do I make a reservation?

A. The only way to reserve seats aboard a cruise is to purchase tickets on line or call our office during business hours.

Q. What payment options do I have?

A. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card and Diners Club.

Q. Can I make a reservation and then pay when I get to the yacht?

A. No, you must purchase tickets in advance.

Q. I have a gift certificate, how do I redeem it?

A. Go to our website and select the cruise you wish to purchase. As you are checking out, there is a place to enter in your gift certificate.

Q. Where do we park?

A. FREE parking is available directly in front of your yacht at Star Fleet's private Kemah marina.

Q. Is gratuity included?

A. Yes. It is included for "good service". If you feel your crew went "above and beyond the call of duty" and/or you have purchased drinks at the bar, a gratuity would be greatly appreciated, but not required. The crew pools their tips and splits them among all crew members at the end of the cruise.

Q. Is smoking allowed?

A. Smoking is allowed on the outside decks only.

Q. Can we bring cake, flowers or decorations?

A. Cakes that do not require refrigeration may be brought on board. You will be charged a $1.50 per person cake cutting fee to cover plates, silverware and linens. Small flower bouquets are allowed. Small groups can bring table decorations but early boarding is not allowed.

Q. What if I'm a vegetarian?

A. Yes, vegetarian meals are available and can be arranged at the time of booking.

Q. May we bring an infant?

A. Yes. There is no charge for children under 3 years of age, however you must select tickets for them so we know they will be on board due to Coast Guard requirements. No special life jackets are required as the parents will hold the infant in their arms while wearing their own life jacket.

Q. Is the ship handicapped accessible?

A. Our yachts are not ADA compliant but every effort has been made to make them ADA friendly. Please contact our office prior to discuss your individual needs and any accommodations we can make.

Q. Are life preservers on board?

A. Each vessel is 100% Coast Guard certified with life preservers and all required life saving equipment, including child life vests.

Q. Can we meet the Captain and visit the bridge?

A. Yes. Guests are welcome to come and meet the captain however during docking or in a hazardous situation guests may be asked to exit the pilot house.
